The Denver Nuggets Von Wafer destroyed everything in his path as his teammates set him up for 26 shots against the New York Knicks. Wafer tied a Summer League record with 42 points. He was 5-for-9 from the three-point arc. Wafers Nuggets fell to the Knicks 116-108 despite his efforts. Speedy Knick guard Nate Robinson scored 24 to pace the team. After the game he was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2007 NBA Summer League. Second round pick Demetris Nichols scored 23 and two Knicks - Wilson Chandler and Randolph Morris - managed double-doubles in points and rebounds. The Knicks cruised through Summer League undefeated at 5-0 while the Nuggets notched a 3-2 record.
Rashad McCants continued the trend of scoring big, accumulating 32 points as his Minnesota Timberwolves nipped the Phoenix Suns 84-81. McCants had 30 of those 32 at half but the Suns recouped to make it a game and had a chance for a tying shot on the last possession of the game, but threw the ball away on the inbounds. Craig Smith again came strong for the Wolves with 21. The Suns were once again led by Ron Hale with 19. D.J. Strawberry had an off shooting game, hitting only 3 of 13 shots, but grabbed 6 rebounds and dished 7 assists. The Timberwolves final Summer League record was 4-1, the Suns 1-4.
The Houston Rockets shot 57% as a team to down the New Orleans Hornets 98-93. Where past Houston games have been dominated by point guard Aaron Brooks, this one was a team scoring effort. Six Rockets scored in double digits led by Brooks 18. The Rockets also shot 53% from the three-point line. The Hornets had four players in double figures themselves led by forward Anthony Richardsons 19. The Hornets finished Summer League winless at 0-5. The Rockets won 4 and lost 1.
The Portland Trail Blazers finished their summer on a winning note, overcoming 32 points and 13 rebounds from the Seattle Supersonics' Jeff Green and 28 points from Kevin Durant to escape with an 84-78 win. Durant scored on an array of impressive shots over almost every Blazer that came against him. Green was as aggressive as hes been all summer and punished the Blazers with drives and foul shots. Center Zendon Hamilton once again led the Blazers with 19 and added 10 rebounds. Martell Webster added 16 on 4-for-7 shooting from beyond the arc. The Blazers ended up 2-3 for the summer. The Sonics were 0-5.
In the final game of the NBA Summer League the Sacramento Kings upended the Los Angeles Clippers 82-60. Spencer Hawes dominated the paint to the tune of 22 points and Nik Caner-Medley had his second straight strong showing, adding 17. Forward Justin Williams notched a matching double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds. Al Thornton scored 17 for the Clippers and center Justin Davis added 16. The Clippers ended up 2-3 for the summer, the Kings 3-2.
The NBA Summer League also named its All-Stars for the event. They are: Aaron Brooks, G, Houston Rockets; Al Thornton, F, Los Angeles Clippers; Craig Smith, F, Minnesota Timberwolves; Javaris Crittenton, G, Los Angeles Lakers; Jose Juan Barea, G, Dallas Mavericks; Kevin Durant, F, Seattle Supersonics; Kyle Lowry, G, Memphis Grizzlies; Louis Williams, G, Philadelphia 76ers; Marco Belinelli, G, Golden State Warriors; Rodney Stuckey, G, Detroit Pistons; Rudy Gay, F, Memphis Grizzlies; Randy Foye, G, Minnesota Timberwolves; Spencer Hawes, C, Sacramento Kings; Von Wafer, G, Denver Nuggets.
Aaron Brooks, G, Houston Rockets was named the best rookie of the event.
